Hemes

Hemes is an up and coming middle eastern artist based in south wales, her musical style stems from commercial pop tones to rock inspired distortion and r&b rhythms and melodies familiar to fans of the weeknd and Aziyah. Hemes has recently released her debut EP “Matters of the mind” which is sonically diverse whilst still staying true to Hemes' sound, the tracks range from bubbly electric guitar lead songs in "Headache" and "Faking a smile" to more mellow, cinematic and RnB inspired tracks in "Calm" and " Something good". The EP is lyrically bold and specific and is a capsule into Hemes' thoughts, discussing topics like overthinking, anxiety, and reeling for a sense of relief.

 

Her EP “Matters of the mind” attracted support from BBC introducing (Adam Walton and Bethan Elfyn) with singles from her EP have also landed the BBC Radio Wales A-list for multiple weeks. Hemes’ achievements to date include performing on the BBC Music introducing stage and the BBC6 music festival, bbc introducing stage at focus wales for Adam Walton as well as playing her first headline show in Cardiff in January 2023. Hemes has gained industry support in the PRS foundation backed artist development scheme Forte Project, as well as launchpad horizons 2021 and 2022. Hemes was announced as one of the finalists for the  BBC Radio 1 Live lounge Introducing finalists 2021 and played Liverpool Sound City Festival 2021 (digital). This year Hemes is working on her second EP with grammy nominated songwriter/ producer Daniel Evans, and various writings in the welsh music scene.

 

Mixing R&b tones with catchy pop melodies Hemes takes influence from artists such as The Weekend, Aziyah and Griff. Based in South Wales, Hemes was born to Arabic parents and her love for music and songwriting stemmed from being raised around a mix of western and middle eastern music, she takes inspiration from personal experiences of growing up, mental health and self-discovery.
